Stephen J. Franzino, M.D.
Stephen John Franzino, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon with more than 20 years of experience and is one of the top sports medicine specialists in Northern California.
Dr. Franzino founded Sports Medicine of Napa Valley in 2003 with a mission to provide the highest quality of sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery to residents of Napa, Sonoma, Solano, Marin, and Lake counties. He has a top reputation for continually providing patients with advanced, state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment services for a wide range of orthopaedic conditions.
After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California, he attended and earned his medical degree from the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He was honored with highest distinction and selected for membership in the Alpha Omega Alpha National Medical Honor Society. Afterwards, he completed orthopaedic internship and residency training at the Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center.
Dedicated to furthering his knowledge and training of sports medicine, Dr. Franzino also completed an additional one-year fellowship in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.
During his fellowship year, Dr. Franzino provided orthopaedic coverage for the San Francisco Giants (MLB), Oakland Raiders (NFL), San Jose Sharks (NHL), San Jose Sabercats (AFL), USA National Rugby Team and the College of San Mateo.
Actively involved in the orthopaedic community, Dr. Franzino is a member of several professional organizations, including:

Besides being one of the most respected surgeons in Northern California, Franzino is also a highly sought consultant for professional sports teams and athletes. He has served on the medical staff for the San Jose Sharks (NHL), San Jose SaberCats (Arena Football League), the San Jose Wolves (American Indoor Football Association), and many more professional organizations. In addition, he is chief medical officer of the Napa Silverados professional baseball team, and provides medical support to the Professional Golf Association at its annual Safeway Open. He also is dedicated to assisting local high schools and colleges, including the Prolific Prep Basketball Academy in Napa.
