Professional Staff

Dr. Franzino is a graduate of the University of Southern California, where he received a Bachelors of Science in Biology in 1981. Dr. Franzino then attended the USC-Keck School of Medicine. He was honored as a Dean's Scholar all four years as well as being elected to the prestigious medical honor society, Alpha Omega Alpha. Upon graduation Dr. Franzino was honored as a "graduate of highest distinction" given to the top 5% of the senior medical student class.

Dr. Franzino completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training at Los Angeles County + USC Medical Center. Then a one-year fellowship in sports medicine and arthroscopy at the Palo Alto Medical Foundation.

During his fellowship year, Dr. Franzino assisted in the care and game coverage of the San Francisco Giants, San Jose Sharks, USA National Rugby Team, San Mateo Junior College, and the Oakland Raiders.

Dr. Franzino is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedics and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of multiple Medical and Orthopedic Societies and is one of the California Delegates to the American Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Franzino is specially trained in cartilage restoration including; Carticel, allograft OATs and minimally invasive resurfacing procedures of the shoulder and knee.

Currently Dr. Franzino is an Orthopaedic consultant and a member of the medical staff of:

  • San Jose Sharks, San Jose Sabercats, San Jose Stealth
  • American Motorcyclist Association, Chief Medical Officer for the Federation Internationale de Motocyclism
